Beyond Monitoring: Unlock Automation with HWg Perseus

While the HW group Perseus family is renowned for its world-class monitoring capabilities, its true power lies in its ability to actively control and automate your environment. Perseus devices are more than just passive data collectors; they are intelligent central units designed to react to sensor data and manage your technology efficiently.

Here’s how you can leverage Perseus for advanced control and automation:

1. Direct Control with Onboard Relay Outputs (DO)

Many Perseus models are equipped with built-in digital relay outputs, allowing them to physically switch connected devices. This is perfect for immediate, local responses.

Use cases include:

  • Activating ventilation or A/C units when a temperature threshold is exceeded.

  • Triggering a siren or warning light during an alarm event (e.g., water leak).

  • Remotely restarting servers, switches, or other network hardware.

  • Controlling lighting systems or other powered equipment.

Models with Relay Outputs:

  • Perseus Monitoring 140/145: Feature 2 relay outputs.

  • Perseus Monitoring 150/155: Equipped with 4 relay outputs.

  • Perseus Energy 285: Includes 2 high-power relay outputs (230V).

2. Intelligent Automation with Lua Scripts & Scheduler

The core strength of Perseus is its onboard intelligence, enabling autonomous, logic-driven actions.

  • Lua Scripts: All Perseus units support custom Lua scripts, allowing you to create complex "if-then" scenarios.

    • Example: "IF the temperature from Sensor A exceeds 35°C AND humidity from Sensor B drops below 20%, THEN activate Relay 1 (start A/C) AND send an email alert to the administrator."

  • Scheduler: The built-in scheduler can trigger outputs at predefined times or regular intervals, independent of sensor readings—ideal for routine tasks.

3. Scalable Network Control with Box2Box & Damocles2

Expand your control capabilities across your entire network. Even Perseus models without physical relays can command other devices.

  • Box2Box Technology: A Perseus unit can send a secure network command to another HW group device, such as a Damocles2 I/O controller, to activate its remote relays. This allows a single Perseus to manage outputs in different rooms, buildings, or racks.

  • How it works: When a sensor connected to Perseus triggers an alarm, Perseus sends a Box2Box command over the LAN to a Damocles2 unit, which then activates its relay to control a local device.

Example Scenario:A central Perseus Monitoring 140 in your main server room detects a high temperature. It can instantly send commands to:

  • A Damocles2 MINI (2 relays) to restart a specific air conditioning unit.

  • A Damocles2 2404 (4 relays) in another part of the building to activate a warning light and siren.

Massive Scalability: According to technical specifications, a single Perseus device can control up to 1,000 other network devices via the Box2Box feature. This allows you to build incredibly large and flexible automation systems with Perseus as the central brain.

In short, Perseus is the complete solution for both monitoring and automation, giving you the power to not only see what's happening but to react intelligently.
